Swachh Bharat Abhiyan only can be Successful when we use ICT Based SWMS

The ever-growing population and lifestyle changes resulted in increased waste generation. Numerous developing countries are facing the challenge of disposing of solid waste properly. However, the methods being followed have been unhealthy. For clean surroundings and a good atmosphere, it is not just about the Government, but every citizen in the country has to take responsibility.

The waste management issue didn’t sprout suddenly. It is an outcome of several insignificant moves in the past. The two factors that we rely on for a clean environment are community participation and Information Communication Technology.

Today’s modern society requires secure Solid waste management without burning holes in the pocket. In a year, a million tonnes of solid waste was generated by Indian households. It is also reported that only sixty percent of waste is collected in the country as countless cities don’t have proper facilities. The storage, collection, and segregation facilities are lagging, which leaves the waste and pollution behind.

Several reasons are at the heart of Solid Waste management problem, from open transportation in trucks to dumping the garbage on roads. Government of India established the Swachh Bharat Mission to ensure solid waste management. The usage of advanced technologies and computer-aided tools will be the best option to manage the issue.

Though the mission’s main aim is to encourage solid waste management, the other objectives include eradicating open defecation, manual scavenging, and more.

The Government is actively involved in the mission and executing the steps. Meanwhile, technology has a crucial role in solid waste management. There are countless ways in which technology can help us to manage the whole situation.

For instance, most people throw garbage on roads due to a lack of awareness of dumpsters’ location. If they could find the nearby dumpster, people will change their routine. And this is waste management system. Similarly, there are a few aspects like route planning for garbage collection, effective maintenance, city sanitization visibility, air quality measurements, and more.

Technology leads the way to a clean environment

The cutting-edge technologies revolutionized our lifestyle, and utilizing these advanced technologies can be beneficial. Here is how ICT can aid the Swachh Bharat Mission.

Analytics

With the help of Analytics, an effective plan can be implemented for solid waste management services. If the board could analyze the waste type, high waste generating regions, and other significant aspects, the plan will be perfect.

Crowdsourcing

This is a simple yet efficient feature that can be beneficial in the long run. Citizens can report the waste-related activities directly to the officials responsible by connecting with them through online portals.

GPS installed waste trucks

Efficiency in the collection system can be enhanced by several notches, as the technology can help route the waste collection trucks.

Sensor to conquer the issue

Sensors can be utilized to measure the pollution in landfills regularly. Using the sensor, we can also identify the waste materials and separate them.

Wrapping up..

The Swachh Bharat Mission is to eradicate the pollution caused by open defecation and unmanageable solid waste deposition. By infusing technology in every step towards Clean India, there are countless benefits. From the efficiency of city services to keeping waste management under control, ICT is an integral element in our mission.
